5. About hometown and family
My hometown is located in the southern part of Cebu. It’s a small place but it’s quite interesting. The people are friendly, kind and are always happy. In the town there’s this beautiful plaza with a fountain. At night many teenagers will go skating and a lot of people will stay there because it looks good. There’s a place also near the seashore and we call it “baywalk”. The air is so fresh and it feels good looking at the lights coming from the ships. Most workers will drop by this place after their work because I think it make them feel relax while listening to some music.
About my family, I came from a big family. I have four siblings, two brothers and two sisters. My mother used to work as a domestic helper in Hong Kong for almost 12 years while my father was working as a construction worker here in Cebu. Then when I was in third year college my mother decided to stay in the Philippines for good. It was a very difficult time for all of us especially financially. After I graduated from college, I started looking for a job and fortunately I found one. I worked as a secretary in an industrial company. But a week after my father met a vehicular accident so my younger sister decided to quit schooling due to money matters. My father had to undergo a major surgery in his right leg and after he has to go through some theraphy. Recently, my father is back to normal but we can’t allow him to work again especially in the construction site. He’s staying in our house taking care of my siblings and my niece, my sister’s daughter while my mother is staying in Manila for some business. My siblings are studying now. Three of them are in college while my youngest brother is in high school.
This is all I can say about my family. I’m so happy and blessed to have them. There may be a lot problems but we’re able to surpass all of them.
私の故郷はセブの南の方に位置します。小さな所ですが、とても面白い場所です。人々はフレンドリーで、親切でいつも幸せそうにしています。町には泉のあるきれいな広場があります。夜にはたくさんの10代の子どもたちが集まり、多くの人が景色を見るために訪れます。そこは、baywalkと呼ばれる海辺の近くの場所でもあります。空気はとても新鮮で、船からの光を見るのも楽しいです。仕事をしている人々は仕事を終えるとこの場所に立ち寄ります。それはたぶん、音楽を聞くとリラックスできるからだと思います。家族に関してですが、私の家は大家族です。4人の兄弟がいます。父がセブで建築作業員として働いていた間のおよそ12年間、母は香港でお手伝いさんとして働いていました。私が大学3年生の時に、母はずっとフィリピンにいることに決めました。当時は、金銭的に大変な時期でした。大学卒業後は、幸運にも仕事を見つけることができました。工業の会社で秘書として働きました。それからしばらくして、父が交通事故に遭いました。そのため、その1週間後にお金の問題で妹が大学中退を決めました。父は右足の手術を受け、その後も治療を受けなければなりませんでした。最近では父は以前のように元気になりましたが、特に工事現場で働くことを家族は許しません。そのため、家で兄弟や姪の面倒をみています。現在母はマニラで働いています。兄弟のうち3人は大学に、1人は高校に通っています。私はこのような家族が持てて幸せです。たくさんの問題があるかもしれませんが、家族と一緒にそれらをのり超えてくことができます。
6. Comments to students
“Learning another language is interesting and challenging, it’s a life-long process. We can’t just learn it for just few months and years. It takes a lot of guts, effort, courage and practice to become excellent in it.”
I’m the only teacher in my family though my mother was a volunteer teacher for children long time ago. I have been teaching Koreans for three years in a Korean Academy. I also taught Koreans in an online class. At present, I’ve been teaching Koreans and Japanese in an online class. For me, teaching Japanese is very challenging yet exciting. I always enjoyed having class because I’m learning a lot of things too from my students. It’s fun getting know different people with different personalities, behavior and culture.
他の言語を学ぶことは面白いことでもあり、難しいことでもあります。それは人生でゆっくり進めていくものだと思います。数ヶ月や数年でマスターすることはできないと思います。母が昔ボランティアで子どもたちの先生をしていた経験を除くと、家族の中で私だけが先生という仕事についています。以前は、韓国の学校で韓国人の生徒さんの先生をしていた経験があります。また、オンライン上で韓国人の生徒さんの先生をしていたこともあります。現在は、韓国人と日本人の生徒さんにオンラインで授業を行っています。私にとって、日本人の生徒さんに教えることは挑戦でもあり、ワクワクすることでもあります。私は生徒さんからも多くのことを学べるので授業をいつも楽しんでいます。異なった性格や習慣や文化を持つ生徒さんと仲良くなるのはとても素敵なことです。
7. Favorite TV program and its contents
Ophra Winfrey Show- I like her program because I think it helps a lot of people especially the sick and the poor ones. This program talks about a lot of issues.
National Geographic – I enjoyed watching the animals they featured. I wanted to know more about them and other things.
MTV (music television) – I just love listening and watching music videos. It makes me feel good especially after work.
Charmed- This program is about the three sisters having powers. They are good witches. They fight against the bad people.
Alias – is played by Jennifer Gardner. I like this program because it shows that women can be both strong but still sexy. Alias is a secret agent so she usually solve a lot of cases and she needs to change her identity all the time.
Ophra Winfrey Showという番組が好きです。彼女の番組は病気や貧しい人の役に立つ番組なので好きです。番組ではさまざまな問題が取り上げられます。
また、National Geographicという番組も好きです。動物を見ることができるので楽しい番組です。
さらに、MTV (music television)という音楽番組や、Charmedという魔女のドラマ、Aliasという主人公が悪と戦うドラマも好きです。
8. Goals and dreams as an English teacher
My greatest ambition is to become a journalist. I wanted to travel and visit a lot of places. It’s my dream to write about so many things in this world from the most beautiful happening to the least one.
My ambition as a teacher is to see myself teaching students the things which I got from my teachers before. I want to inculcate in their minds that education is still important. It’s my pleasure seeing my students successful in their career.
一番の夢はジャーナリストになることです。そして、たくさんの場所を訪れてみたいです。世界中で起こるすばらしい出来事から事件についてまで、さまざまなテーマについての記事を書くことが私の夢です。先生としての夢は、私が教わったことを生徒さんにしっかり教えることです。また、生徒さんに教育の重要性を教えたいです。さらに、生徒さんが仕事で成功する姿を見るのも私の楽しみです。
9. About Japanese and Japan
My first impression with Japanese is that they’re very polite and kind. They’re hardworking and they are eager to learn things. I have high respect for Japanese people. I’m amazed to know that they’re always on top especially when it comes to technology. It shows that they’re talented and they put a lot of effort to their work to make it better. I also noticed, Japanese are very particular about the time. For them time is precious. Every single bit of it is like gold and it should not be wasted.
日本人に対する第一印象はとても礼儀正しく、親切であるということです。よく働き、学ぶことに熱心だと思います。日本人はすばらしいと思います。科学技術のこととなると、いつも最先端を走っていることにも驚きます。このことは、日本人には才能があり、物事をよくするために、努力しているということを示しているのではないでしょうか。また、日本人は時間にとても正確です。日本人にとって時間は貴重なものなのでしょう。どの瞬間も大切で無駄にできないのでしょう。
