- About family
I am a mom of three wonderful boys.My husband is a surgeon in one of the local hospitals here.As to my educational background, I finished BS Medical Technology and BS Nursing with a Certificate in Psychology, both at Silliman University and I am a registered practitioner in both professions. I worked as a medical technologist at Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City for almost four years. As a nurse, I had a few months training as a dialysis nurse in one of the local hospitals here in the city. Aside from that, I was able to go to the United States on a working visa and was able to work as a home care nurse in New York City. However, it didn’t take me so long to decide to come back home primarily because I realized there was no wisdom in leaving the kids behind, with both my husband and I working outside the country, especially since they were too young at that time. Dumaguete City is known as “the city of gentle people” for its friendly and hospitable atmosphere. Though average in terms of size, the city gives you an interesting mix of traditional fare and urban sophistication without the usual hustle and bustle of big cities. Dumaguete has also earned the distinction of being “the center of learning in the south” because of its prestigious universities and colleges.
- Comments to students
I had the wonderful experience of working as a teacher/clinical instructor at Silliman University College of Nursing. I never imagined the amount of fulfilment one gets out of being a teacher since it never was one of my options after graduation. Aside from being a mentor, it was fun and amazing to interact with my students who never ran out of ideas and were so full of energy. It is in this light that. I also look forward to a meaningful and fulfilling experience with my English students. It is my belief that learning is always a two-way experience, so as the students try to learn the English language I know I will also be learning a lot of things from them.
- Favorite TV program and its contents
Primarily, I tune in to the television to watch the news. I want to keep abreast with what is happening, both locally and around the world. I am also a big fan of Oprah Winfrey, her passion for education, human rights and healthy living, among others, never fail to fascinate me. After that, I give myself a balanced dose of reality tv shows, musical shows like Glee and American Idol, and of course showbiz entertainment.
- Goals and dreams as an English teacher
English being the universal language can definitely open a lot of doors for the learner. Learning the language can offer endless possibilities in finding one’s way around the world even in the simple pleasure of reading a good book. Therefore, as an English teacher, it is my dream to influence my students in the best possible way I can At this point , the most important lesson I have learned is to be true to oneself, and to find the positive light in whatever experience you go through in life. Always thirst to learn new things everyday because there is just so much that life can teach us. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, all of life is a constant education.
- About Japanese and Japan
Unknowingly, my first exposure to Japanese culture goes way back when I was a little girl and this was through the Japanese art of origami. My father used to make these interesting animals out of folded paper which he copied from a book and I remember that getting one new creation was enough to make my day. In high school we learned about their rich history and were taught the Japanese art of flower arrangement or Ikebana. Since then, I have come to learn about Japan and its people and how they have earned their place in the family of nations. The Japanese, being known to be a hard-working race, has always tried to excel in every field ? science and technology, sports, and business, to name a few.
