I consider Davao City also known as the “Land of Promise” to be my hometown. I can say this for it is where I was born, spent my childhood years and studied until highschool. Coming from a family of doctors, I took up a course in Biology at the University of San Carlos (Cebu City) as my preparatory for medicine. I finished the degree in the year 2003 and continued my studies of becoming a doctor at the Cebu Institute of Medicine. I never expected how overwhelming the course was so I shifted to a Nursing degree at the University of the Visayas and graduated with flying colors in the year 2008. By profession, I’m a Certfied Biologist and a Registered Nurse as well and so far, I have handled some seminars and lectures to nursing students before. Currently, I’m working as an English Teacher at the ABC Academy – English Island Co., this is a way of showing my great interest and passion in teaching the English Language.

Based on my experience, I always believe that students are like empty cups that need to be filled with the right of amount knowledge, values and wisdom. I know that my role as teacher is not an easy task and I also believe that students feel the same way for they are like stones that need to be polished to become gemstones in the future. This means that they need to undergo the appropriate trainings and teachings to equip themselves the necessary knowledge they need in the future. I always remind my students that there is always a room for learning and learning is lifelong process.

Whenever I get the chance to sit and watch TV, I usually love to watch international news channels like CNN and BBC. My parents greatly influenced me about this, that a person should always be updated and sensitive to the things that arehappening around him. Aside from news channels, I also have an eye on watching channels that stream movies and sports too. But most of the time, I love to read novels and anecdotes. One of the passages that I’ve encountered through my readings which motivated and inspired me to start teaching was... “You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him the value of learning then he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.

My goals as an English Teacher are just very simple, too simple that they sometimes become so hard to achieve. First is to be able to teach the English language to as many students as I can, for I value the importance of communication. Secondly, to be able to give the students the easiest way or strategy in understanding the language and lastly, to be an inspiration not just to students but also to those people who are deprived of the privilege to educate themselves the value and importance of learning and education. My dream as an ESL Teacher is for my students to value and treasure all of the knowlegde they have learned and not to waste it but to make use of it for the welfare of others.

Well to be honest, I haven’t been to Japan though I crave to pay a visit someday if given the chance. I’ve heard that Japanese people are hardworking and empathetic. One of the things that gave me an idea of the history and culture of Japan was the movie “Memoirs of Geisha”. I was really blown away by the beauty of a kimono and its novelty. One thing that made me fell for Japan is their food. I’m certainly into good food and I find Japanese food very delicious. How I wish I could try to eat some sushi and maki that are all originally made in Japan, and not just made in the local restaurants here in the Philippines.
